Located in the heart of downtown Healdsburg, the HCA gallery gets lots of foot traffic from locals, as well as visitors to Healdsburg. Experience all facets of retail in HCA’s beautiful gallery where proceeds help to support art center programs. Gallery volunteers are the front line of customer engagement here at the HCA. They provide many services to help our guests, including maintaining the gallery appearance, restocking, cashing out the customers’ items, processing registration fees, selling tickets, and answering questions.
Friendly, detail-oriented volunteers who can commit at least 12 hours per month are needed year-round. Experience in handling money and working with computers is required. Initial and quarterly training is be provided.
HCA hosts a number of events that need outgoing, friendly, and dependable volunteers. Help us host some of the best events in Healdsburg! Volunteer assistance is needed for exhibition opening receptions in the form of greeters, food prep, wine pouring, and cleanup (8 times per year); at annual events like the Healdsburg Arts Festival and Opera in the Garden; and at periodic paid presentations such as lecture series, literary events, film screenings, and music in the gallery for setup, wine pourers, greeters, and cleanup. Time commitment ranges from 3 hours per reception or presentation events to longer for major annual events.
Energetic, out-going volunteers are needed year round. Participation can be for a specific event or a longer term commitment that may include being part of a team that plans many similar events. Event orientation is provided.
Do you have a good eye and steady hands? Do you have experience or interest in putting together an exhibition or helping to hang art? Join the Exhibition Team! Several times a year we need assistance, including chairing or curating an exhibition, prepping the gallery before and after shows (filling holes and painting walls), intake of art, as well as assisting in hanging art. Participation can be for several hours per week when preparing for an exhibition, to several hours in a day when hanging the art.
Members of the Marketing Team will help out once or twice a month by distributing brochures, postcards, flyers, and generally spreading the word around Healdsburg and neighboring communities about the great things going on at HCA. The Marketing Team also produces the HCA newsletter twice a month – providing our followers with information about upcoming workshops, classes, exhibitions and events.
If you are well organized and have a great attention for detail, we need your help for maintaining the mailing list, filing, preparing mailings, and many behind-the-scenes projects such as web development. Operations Team volunteers may work regular shifts or be available on-call for special event projects.
If you have ideas of how HCA can grow and continue to serve the community, we need creative thinkers to assist with providing insight into fundraising and education programs.
In order to sustain the operations at HCA is dependent on community and corporate support. Our gallery sales and education program fees only cover a portion of the costs to keep HCA vibrant. Methods of fundraising used to date are: Member support, exhibition sponsorship, events, and grants. Our annual goal for fundraising is $100,000.
Our education program includes both adult and youth classes and workshops, Summer Art Camp, lectures, and demonstrations. Topics have included painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, poetry, musical theater, cooking, and mosaics. We have offered both free and fee based sessions.
