Healdsburg Center for the Arts is pleased to partner with The Parks & Recreation Department to offer quality art classes for all interests and ages. For more information about the Parks and Recreation Department and to register for classes visit www.healdsburgparksandrec.org.
With this new alliance, we will have the use of a larger and quieter classroom with easy access to the outside, and complement the Community Center’s vibrant program with art classes and workshops for kids, adults and families.

The classes listed below are offered at the Healdsburg Community Center (Foss Creek Community Center), 1557 Healdsburg Avenue unless otherwise noted.
Please register early to avoid disappointing class cancellations.

HOLIDAY WORKSHOP FOR FAMILIES
SATURDAY  DECEMBER 6
Time: 12:30-4:30 pm

Instructor:  Cheryl Itamura
Come celebrate the Holidays by making gift tags, wrapping paper and printing Holiday cards of your own design.
This workshop is designed to have a parent and child working together on
creating a personal touch for your Holiday gifts.

 SEPTEMBER


ART FOR PRESCHOOLERS
Ages 3 ½ – 5 yrs
Dates: Thursdays, September 4 – 24
Time: 9:15-10:30 am
Instructor: Carrie Shere
The varied projects make learning drawing, painting, printmaking and assembling a lot of fun for the kids. A parent is required to remain on site during the class.

MIXED MEDIA FOR KIDS
Ages 6 – 10 yrs
Dates: Wednesdays, September 3 – 24
Time: 3:30pm – 5:30pm         

Instructor: Carrie Shere
Explore the world of creative activities based upon a wide range of two and three dimensional projects. Painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage, and drawing techniques are taught. A variety of materials are used including colored pencils, clay, foamcore, charcoal, pastels, acrylic and watercolor paints, and markers.
Carrie Shere has over fifteen years extensive experience teaching kids ages five to twelve. She earned her bachelors degree at UC Santa Cruz and received her Masters in Fine Art at San Jose State University. Ceramics was the focus in both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. For the past fifteen years she has taught a diverse group of students while still doing her own work as a ceramic artist.  Carrie has taught visual arts to elementary school students at outreach programs, Los Angeles County Museum, and various art programs offered in Los Angeles County.

PAINTING & DRAWING
Ages 7-11 yrs
Dates: Tuesdays, September 9 – 30
Time: 3:30pm – 5:30pm
Instructor:  Crystal Cissell-Anderson
Kids will have fun exploring and playing with various materials while learning to paint and draw by closely observing the world around them. This allows them to then create from their own imaginations.
Crystal Cissell-Anderson has ta B.A. from Sonoma State University.  She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy for a year and has taught in Sonoma County, including Montgomery High School.

PRESTON FARM TOUR  (all ages)

Date: Wednesday, October 1
Time: 3:30pm – 5:30pm

A hands-on farm experience for all ages to enjoy. Tour the farm, animals, and bakery. During the visit, everyone gets to experience a taste of Preston, sampling produce as well as harvesting the ingredients for use in preparing a salad that will be enjoyed along with our hearth baked bread. Kids will play a role in making flat breads and see the different stages of wheat. After the salad snack we will complete the circle of (farm) life at the compost pile for a final wrap-up.

PRINTMAKING and MORE
Ages 6-11
Dates: Mondays, October 6 – 27

Time: 3:30pm – 5:30pm
Instructor: C.K. Itamura
In this fun workshop we’ll learn different methods of printmaking to create fun projects to take home.  We’ll print: wrapping paper using vegetables to print with; greeting cards using letterpress; a t-shirt using screen printing; a notebook using soft blocks; and a colorful collagraph print worthy of framing.
C.K.Itamura is a letterpress and linocut printer, photographer and writer. Her work blurs the lines between mediums as she combines letterpress and reduction linocut printing with photography, social commentary, personal idealism, live presentation and mixed media. Her studio, Peach Farm Studio is based in Sonoma County, California. She teaches letterpress, linoleum block printing and other book arts classes and workshops in the San Francisco bay area and throughout the North Bay. www.PeachFarmStudio.com

SUPERSTAR ARTISTS FRIDA KAHLO AND DIEGO RIVERA 
Ages: 7-11 yrs
Dates: 5 Thursdays: November 6 – 20 & December 4-11
Time: 3:30pm – 5:30pm
Instructor:  Lynn Roth
Learn about the lives and artistic styles of Frida and Diego. We’ll make a super mural like Diego’s and create paintings in the weird and wonderful style of  Frida.
