MIXED MEDIA PAINTING

Explore the world of creative activities based upon a wide range of two and three dimensional projects. Painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage, and drawing techniques are taught. A variety of materials are used including colored pencils, clay, foamcore, charcoal, pastels, acrylic and watercolor paints, and markers.
Carrie Shere has over fifteen years extensive experience teaching kids ages five to twelve. She earned her bachelors degree at UC Santa Cruz and received her Masters in Fine Art at San Jose State University. Ceramics was the focus in both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. For the past fifteen years she has taught a diverse group of students while still doing her own work as a ceramic artist. Carrie has taught visual arts to elementary school students at outreach programs, Los Angeles County Museum, and various art programs offered in Los Angeles County.

CLAY / FIMO SCULPTURE

In three classes kids will learn hand building techniques to create Valentines, Tea Sets or Bug Tunnels and their own personal box for keepsakes. The sculptures will be oven fired and ready to take home at the end of each class.

STOP MOTION ANIMATION
Saturday March 2 – Ages: 7-10

Instructor: Sarah Klein
Location – Healdsburg Center For The Arts
This hand-cut paper stop-motion animation workshop is taught by artist/animator Sarah Klein. The students in the workshop will work collaboratively to brainstorm a short narrative for their project and will work closely with Klein to design and draw the characters, sets, props needed for the project. Each student will gain experience filming a section of the animation using traditional stop-motion techniques. The final animation project will be edited by Klein and posted on a Vimeo page for public viewing.
Sarah Klein is a San Francisco artist, curator and educator. Her practice includes live action and stop-motion animation. Klein uses paper cutouts and stop-motion techniques to create narratives on domestic life and related themes. She has screened her work at an international selection of venues including General Public in Berlin, The Glasshouse in Tel Aviv and domestically at the Institute of Contemporary Art in San Jose, Exit Art in New York and the Mill Valley Film Festival. She is the recipient of grants from the Zellerbach Family Foundation and the Southern Exposure Alternative Exposure. Since 2008 Klein has curated a screening program called Stop & Go that features the work of visual artists and filmmakers. The show is currently in its third installment and called Stop & Go 3-D.

PAPER MAKING

Location – Healdsburg Center For The Arts
This is a fun and exciting way to learn the basics of how a common material like paper is made and to discover all the different ways it can be used. We’ll make and use paper in a traditional way–creating paintings but also make three dimensional objects like bowls and even jewelry.
Lynn Roth was Artist in Residence for the Windsor School District for many years and is currently enjoying teaching art classes at Finley Center and Charles Schulz Museum, as well as here at The Healdsburg Arts Center. Lynn also has a custom hat, bridal and jewelry business in Santa Rosa.
