Creativity is my source of spirituality, a kind of meditation, a way to shut the hasty world outside the studio door and enter into a state of utter absorption.
Hello, my name is Gary Sauder. It is indeed a distinct pleasure to exhibit my wildlife paintings as well as some of my portrait and figure paintings as a resident artist at the Plaza Arts center.
I love California. My artwork reflects my pleasure in its terrain and moods, dwelling on the hills and vineyards of Sonoma County and the coastal areas where the land rolls west to meet the Pacific Ocean.
I was born and raised in Norway and have been designing jewelry in silver and gold for the last 40 years. My jewelry is made using the “lost wax method”.
My real sense of serious photography began when vacationing in Alaska. I was using a small vacation film camera trying to capture close up pictures of eagles, whales, fields of flowers and distant mountains.
Most of my paintings are about 'pattern'. I love design, color, and texture. I try to incorporate these items in my paintings, along with my love of traveling and foreign cultures.
